We do permanent natural clay projects about once or twice a year. After the kids have been working with natural modeling clay and beeswax for about six months-they are ready to make an heirloom and clay legacy....
This volcano is based on Susan Whitehead's season books which I bought from Bob and Nancys bookstore on line. The inspiration is the story of Coco boato- a little coconut that meets a lonely Island that was just formed from a volcano. It is the story of renewal, friendship and working together-with lovely pictures as well. In the final stages we painted the volcano with natural pigments and decorated it with tiny pieces of beeswax. The little coconut in the boat with the sail is our little Coco boato. If you do not have these books I encourage you to buy the series they are perfect for kindergarten and the older children also were inspired to create a set of block crayon pictures of coco boatos journey to the island. Each book has songs, poems and pictures.
