Making a Homemade Waldorf Doll: We All Need to Do It..at Least Once!

The Home-made Waldorf Doll-this is pretty much an unsaid "must" for Waldorfers.  I have to admit, I was dreading it and putting it off for a long time-but I dropped everything one summer and we all worked together to create 9 different dolls.  Not shown here are the ones we made for each of them that looks like each one of them and I stuffed them with their own hair that I have been saving since birth and wool.  These dolls here are the multicultural collection.  All though every part of the process was rewarding in its own way-their favorite part was making the different types of ethnic clothes.  They all say that their favorite is the African doll-they love her hair, clothes and jewelry.  If you have not made a doll with your child-I encourage you to make at least one.  This is a journey and memory that they will never forget. Furthermore, Waldorf has gotten away from making natural things to buying expensive natural things, while this is better than buying plastic poison toys-don't underestimate the meaning and treasure of making something yourself with your child.  For my own daughter, she never really liked dolls, would never play with them or bond with them...sad to say they were all plastic and synthetic-but making the dolls herself has made all of my children love playing with their dolls and they still do.  As I sit and type my almost 13 year old son, my almost 12 year old daughter and 7 year old are playing in their rooms with their dolls right now!  Good luck on your doll journey : ) Aurore

PS-this Weir doll link is local in Ann Arbor and I know the owner- they have all of your waldorf supplies and even have ready made heads  ; )

  1. The dolls are beautiful! I made these many years ago, and just recently decided to do it again. My daughter received the Kinder Dolls book for Christmas and we got some beautiful organic soy/cotton material for the skin. Your post is inspiring us! :)
