Cooking is an important lesson for children.
It is not something to be attained in lesson plans but requires active participation
between parents and children. Many people think that cooking is a time to get away
from the kids and for many years I did too...especially with homeschooling. But now,
I have integrated it into our week. With baking day and three times a week we make homemade bread and juice. We use two things-one is the vitamix for our juice-but for grinding our grain- I love the champion juicer. Mine has lasted 12 years! I have never had a problem with it. My children and I grind a two cup mix of spelt, millet and barley on monday mornings-then we add it to two cups of non bleached white organic wheat bread flour and a tablespoon of flaxseeds...add the rest of the ingredients-put it in the bread maker and for lunch we have a very healthy snack. Homemade bread is filled with fiber, b-vitamins, enzymes and minerals. Keep in mind that they are only there for 24 hours after grinding the grain. The second picture from above is a picture of our kombucha mushroom- another weekly routine. We also make homemade yogurt with our raw milk from the farm. This might seem like a lot-but these few things are the hallmark of health at our home and I am also naturopath doctor- teaching my children to derive their needs from nature itself.
